Looking for some fun and fanciful ideas for the summer for your little girls???? UNICORNS! It doesn’t get much more whimsical.
1. Best Unicorn Book
My daughter has been spell-bound by unicorns lately. It all started with a new book. I have to say this is now one of my favorite reads! It’s not too long and the story is heartwarming. Since purple is also a favorite color in our house, this book makes the best read list everyday. Uni the Unicorn is all around town but just click this link and you can snag it from Amazon.
2. Unicorn Photo Shoot
Yep, this is all the rage! Take a pony shoot and transform it into something mystical. Many photographers are now offering this type of session in the spring and summer with live ponies. My daughter just had her shoot with Hannah Hilliard Photography outside of Indianapolis, but don’t worry…another session is right around the corner, and there are still a few available spots! Oh, did I mention that my styling business, The Borrowed Boutique, is offering wardrobe options??? Shoot me a message if you’re interested.
3. Unicorn Clothing
If you’re looking for a super cute online boutique that carries all the best brands, then my friend, Emily, at The MerrryLoveJoy Company has got you covered! She knows a thing or two about unicorns as well! Check out her unicorn inspired apparel and stay tuned to win some unicorn goodies!!!
4. Unicorn Toy

5. Unicorn Inspired Party
I know I keep gushing about The MerryLoveJoy Company, but this online shop also makes party planning easy. Soon to make its debut to the website…you guessed it…unicorn themed party products!
Childhood passes too quickly!! I love that my little one still believes in make-believe. Today Tinkerbell landed on her head and Peter Pan flew through the window! A purple unicorn and a pink hippo decided to join us for lunch! Embrace it! Before you know it the fairies will have flown the coop.
I have mentioned before that Little Giraffe is one of my favorite baby/child luxury lines. From their stuffed animals to their bath towels…they are the best! My daughter, Ayla’s, very first stuffed animal was the GIANT (not Little as the company name implies) plush pink, grey, and white giraffe. My husband bought her for our preemie daughter while we were living in the hospital neonatal intensive care unit. Sophie (that is what we lovingly named our pet giraffe) stayed in the NICU with us for those trying nine long weeks. She moved around the room, sometimes even stealing the nurses’ work station seat at the computer, adding beauty and laughter to an otherwise stressful situation.
When our daughter was able to safely be held outside of her incubator, one of her early pictures taken by one of our AMAZING night shift nurses (Chelsea you rock!) was in the arms of her Little Giraffe. At 3 lbs. 2 ounces, our daughter’s tiny size was even more profound in comparison to her plush friend. Over the past two years we have continued to take pictures of Ayla in the arms of her Little Giraffe. I am blessed to say that she is now almost as big as Sophie! I never thought a stuffed animal could be so sentimental…but, our Little Giraffe is more than just the cutest plush you’ve ever seen. To this day, Sophie still sits beside my daughter’s crib as a reminder of all of our answered prayers.
So, yes, I have a soft spot for the Little Giraffe company, and I tend to agree with the Company of the Year Earnie Award that they just received. Since they are so excited about their award they decided to invite us to the party!!! Yep, you guessed it, they have a special discount code offering 15% off of their entire online store until November 1, 2014. This never happens! Simply enter LOVEWINS14 at checkout to get the discount.

Recently, Green Toys was generous enough to ship me two of their new retro toy cooktops (One for a giveaway, and another for my daughter, Ayla, to play with). These cooktops are too cool! Not only are they super cute…they are incredibly practical for play. Because of their small size, they can go anywhere! Ayla has used hers in her playroom, her bedroom, the living room, the kitchen, the grass, and the car. These cooktops are a great toy option for road trips. Because they don’t take up much room, these can be thrown in the trunk and then pulled out for play in any hotel room or lobby. Bring along a pan and a spoon and you are good to go!
In addition to being travel friendly, the Green Toy Retro Cooktop is dishwasher safe-perfect for any mom who doesn’t want any extra hand-washing (that would be this mama!) I love this company because their mission is to provide children with safe and eco-friendly toys. All of their products are made from either recycled or eco-friendly materials…the cooktop included. Check out these products on their website for more details and to purchase. They come in both pink and aqua. If you are interested in winning a free cooktop…click the link below for giveaway entry details. Who wouldn’t want a free toy! Although I was given both of these cooktops free of charge, all of my opinions are always my own!
Babies always need something to chew, hold, slobber on, and kiss! While perusing a super cute baby boutique in Traverse City, Michigan, I came across one of my all time favorite organic toy and teether lines…ORGANIC FARM BUDDIES! This line was created by Apple Park, a United States based company committed to creating eco-friendly and adorable products for our kids.
I purchased Penny The Pig-Blankie. She is part stuffed animal, part rattle, and part blankie! My daughter loves her! Organic Farm Buddies also come as rattles, stuffed animals, and as gift sets. The best thing about each of these creatures is their personality! For example, Pork Chop is a little pig dressed for Karate.
Apple Park has a series of Picnic Buddies as well as super adorable teething toys. The wild mushroom rattles are one of my favorites, and who can pass up an apple seed rattle! Pair the apple seed rattle with a little book on Johnny Apple Seed, and you’ve got one super cute baby gift! Put the wild mushroom rattles with a fairy onsie…cuteness!
Each series of toys gives you the opportunity to talk with your child about animals, nature, and healthy food. Apple Park has made things just a little more awesome by creating free stories and activities for your child’s little buddy. They also have a book about their Picnic Buddies. You can check it out on their website. All of these images come directly from their website. You can also find these cuties on Amazon.
Ayla LOVES bath time. Who wouldn’t with a bath full of fun toys? Time to share our favorite bath time picks from toys, to soap, and towels! Let’s get splishin’ and splashin’! What to Sit In? When looking at baby … Continue reading →
Inspired by the desire to shop locally, buy green, and find some darn cute toys, I stumbled upon Green Toys! Don’t be fooled by the rather unimaginative name…the toys are super cute and creative. This company manufactures all of its toys, which are made from 100% recycled plastic milk jugs and other environmentally friendly materials, in the United States. They are all BPA, PVC, and Phthalate free. So, no worries when these toys end up in your little one’s mouth!
I first met Green Toys when a dump truck introduced himself to me in the toy aisle at Homegoods. Yes, toys have a tendency to speak to me! My rule of thumb…if a toy is rude enough to ignore me, it can stay on the shelf! This little red and yellow dump truck wanted a home. And, although I’m okay with Ayla having “boy” toys, when I saw that the same dump truck came in pink and purple… it was love at first sight (sorry, little red and yellow). Soon after I purchased the girly dump truck I hopped on Green Toys’ website in search of more treasures. This time I zoomed away with an adorable pink race car.
Next on my list to buy is the vintage cooktop! It comes in either pink or a pale aqua. So cute for a playroom, and it won’t take up much space. I know that I highlighted the girly toys, but Green Toys has tractors, train sets, ferry boats and more. Check it out and see what you think.
My mom is the best! As a reading specialist, she finds some of the coolest books for Ayla. This weekend, we were introduced to the Whizzy Winders collection from Igloo Books. Not only do these board books have great illustrations, they also have an attached fold-out track for characters in the story. Simply wind up the included cars or fire truck, place them on the track, and let them go! This is such a fun way to get kids excited about reading. It is also a perfect travel toy. I can’t wait to use it during airport layovers!
My mom gave us Old MacDonald Had a Farm, but this series also includes Little Fire Truck’s Busy Day, Little Tractor, Little Train, Little Racing Car...You get the idea! My only warning would be that the book is designed for ages 3 and up due to the size of the trucks and cars. Ayla is almost two, and loves it, but we do have to supervise just to make sure that little parts don’t end up in her mouth! You can find these at the Igloo Books webpage and on Amazon. The images all come from the Amazon webpage. Make reading an interactive and fun experience for you little one. Check them out and let me know what you think!
